Setting Up Your Signup Form and Embed
5 min read · Last updated June 2026
Every Narrativ account comes with a hosted signup page readers can visit to join your list, plus an embed widget you can drop onto your own website. This guide covers how to customize both.
Your hosted signup page
When you created your account, Narrativ generated a hosted signup page — a standalone web page where readers enter their name and email to subscribe. The URL looks like:
narrativ-app.com/subscribe?author=YOUR_ID
You can find your exact URL in the Email List panel under Signup Page. This is the link you share with readers.
Customizing your signup page
- Go to Email List in the left nav
- Find the Signup Page section and click Customize →
- Edit the fields you want to change (see below)
- Preview the changes in real time
- Click Save
Fields you can customize
- Headline — the main heading on the page (e.g. "Join my reader list" or "Get exclusive updates")
- Subtext — a short description under the headline explaining what subscribers get
- Button text — the label on the subscribe button (default: "Subscribe")
- Brand color — used for the button and accent elements. Use your author brand color for consistency.
- Logo — upload an author photo or logo (recommended size: 200×200px or wider at 2:1 ratio)
- Book association — optionally link the signup page to a specific book, so new subscribers are automatically tagged with that book
Confirmation email
After someone subscribes, they receive a confirmation email. You can customize what this email says:
- Subject — e.g. "Thanks for joining my reader list!"
- Body — thank the reader, tell them what to expect, and maybe offer something (a free chapter, a bonus short story, etc.)
The confirmation email goes out immediately after signup and is sent from the same "From" name you use for campaigns.
Tip: A welcome email with a free gift (exclusive excerpt, deleted scene, character art) dramatically increases the chance that readers remember you and open your future campaigns. Treat the welcome email as your first impression.
Sharing your signup link
The most effective places to share your signup page link:
- Amazon Author Central — in your author bio and book descriptions
- Goodreads — your author profile and book pages
- BookBub — your author profile
- Social media bios — Instagram, Facebook, TikTok, X/Twitter
- Your email signature
- Back matter of your books — a "Join my reader list" page at the end of each ebook or print book. Readers finishing a book are highly motivated to subscribe.
- ARC sign-up pages — link to it when recruiting ARC readers
Embedding on your own website
If you have an author website, you can embed a signup form directly on any page. Narrativ provides an embed widget — a short snippet of HTML you copy and paste into your site.
- Go to Email List → Signup Page → Customize →
- Scroll to the Embed Widget section
- Copy the embed code snippet
- Paste it into your website wherever you want the form to appear (your homepage, a dedicated "Newsletter" page, a blog sidebar, etc.)
Where to put the embed
The highest-converting spots for an email signup form on an author website:
- Hero section of your homepage — above the fold, first thing visitors see
- Footer — catches visitors who scrolled the whole page
- Dedicated "/newsletter" page — link to it from your nav and social bios
- Individual book pages — after the book description, relevant to that book's readers
Embed compatibility
The embed widget works with virtually any website platform:
- WordPress (paste into a Custom HTML block)
- Squarespace (use a Code block)
- Wix (use the HTML embed element)
- Webflow (paste into an Embed element)
- Custom HTML/Jekyll/Hugo sites
Tracking signup sources
Narrativ records the source for every subscriber — whether they came through your hosted signup page, your embed, a manual add, or a CSV import. You can see this in the Source column of your subscriber table, and use it to build segments (e.g. "all readers from the signup form").
